In the heart of Le Panier, Les Treize-Cantons place became very popular thanks to the French TV show called « Plus belle la vie ». It is a picturesque place surrounded by lovely little streets, in the city centre but far from the traffic’s noise!
The place des 13 Cantons connects rue du Panier to rue de l’Évêché. Its name comes from an old inn funded by a Swiss in the 17th Century. “Les treize 13 cantons” indeed referred to the 13 Helvetian cantons of the time.
Stop there for a refreshing break and then visit the arty shops and galleries of the area. The Vieille Charité, one of Marseille cultural hotspots and most beautiful museums, as well as the Cathédrale la Major are also just nearby.
In this place, there is a typical museum of the city : La Maison de la Boule, dedicated to the Pétanque and « le jeu provençal ».
