Located in Marseille 13th arrondissement, Athéna park has been recently created. Its infrastructure attracts sporty people and families come to rest in its green space.
A few years ago, we could find farming fields where the Parc Athéna lies. Today, people come to enjoy biking trails, play areas, skate bowls…
The theatre Athéna Niké is located just below. You would be mistaken to think it was created in the Greek time, it was built at the beginning of the 90’s to please the domain’s owner. The reinforced concrete space takes its inspiration from the Greek theatres of Athens Acropolis, and is a perfect example of the neo-antic fashion at the beginning of the 20th Century. It was very trendy at this time before becoming totally forgotten.
Tips & anecdotes
The park’s bottom is a very wet zone due to the presence of La Grave and Les Bessons streams. This explains why the vegetation is quite unusual: willows, frênes, poplars, elms, cannes de Provence and reeds. On the plateau itself, you will find the traditional Mediterranean flora.
