Marseille bike lovers know very well that our city doesn’t have enough biking trails. And the traffic has quite a bad reputation… But with lovely promenades and large avenues, it’s still possible to explore the city by bike. We tell you all about it.

Where to ride your bike?

Head to the Prado beaches and ride along the coast towards the calanques. There is no biking trail on this road but enough space to ride in peace while admiring the sea! You can also take the Corniche but be aware the traffic can be a nightmare depending on the time of the day. Leave the city’s centre or even the city to enjoy a fresh pure air (be aware it will become more hilly!).

Ride your bike in group

Since 2014, every first Sunday of the month, the collective « Vélos en Ville » organises bike rides to discover Marseille and its surroundings. Anecdotes, stories, history of our districts, an amusing way to get to know our area better!  The bike rides takes you either through Marseille or around the city, in the countryside or on the coast. You will learn more about our area and meet a lot of people.

The Vélotour (bike tour)

The first one was launched in Dijon in 2006. The Vélotour is now an important event that takes place in 6 cities of France every year. Marseille is one of them. Each time, the idea is to offer a new tour to discover the city from a different perspective. Some spots are really out of the ordinary and to be discovered only by bike! It’s the opportunity to explore Marseille with its vast sport, industrial and cultural heritage, through sites where bikes are usually forbidden.  Don’t miss this event!

La fête du vélo (the bike party)

Every year in june, « Vélo en Ville » organises the « fête du vélo ». The atmosphere is very friendly and the event allows you to discover the city with friends or family!
